I believe that we are divided into two classes of people ... Optimists and Pessimists ... Optimists cheer with the success of others, do the best they can today, and more importantly end up doing better tomorrow. Always think to yourself that everything can be improved. Embedded within the optimist is the power to keep in constant motion, even when others think it is hopeless. Optimists were able to create the wheel, find the energy and dedication to invent the car, vaccines, computers, televi- sion, etc, etc, etc ..
To the pessimist, life simply goes by ... in the worse way of course. In their case, there would be no computers, electricity, television, vaccines, medicines ...waiting for something to move, inspire or drive them, always worried what others think, it would not work ...and simply would not happen.
What would the world be today if there were only these naysayers? While optimists can see light at the end of the tunnel, the pessimists are always looking down a tunnel for the sign of any light before entering. What kind of person you? Think about it.... I am optimistic and confident. Difficulties strengthen me, and I am surprisingly stronger from the experience... This is also when I put my creativity to work with greater vigor. I was raised in a country of crisis where from the time we were small we that are trained to put up with the difficulties, to find a way out and be men- tally stronger for it.
We are fruit of the environment in which we live. It shapes us according to need. This is a
basic principle of nature. I arrived here but faced daily struggles, sweat, tears of joy and sorrow ... Not every battle won, but I fought with all my strength and force. My reward was not money, because that I do not have ... My rewards are the friendships I've created. Today, I am surrounded by loyal friends, I feel I am the richest man in the world. I never give up.
Coming from a country like mine, you know that word does not exist in our vocabulary. You can knock me down, but ... Surprise.... I get up again . Pessimists....always trying to destroy what the optimist is trying to build... I feel sorry for them ...They don’t have the capacity to make dream come true, and then try to destroy those who do. I feel sorry for them all because at the end of their miserable existence, they will look back and see that they left no legacy ...no mark on the world... just passed through here safely ... Now ask yourself what you are ...optimistic or pessimistic ...

I don’t like doors that are ajar. You don’t see everything, you can only peek inside. A little wind comes and only a further little glimpse inside with truths half told and lies badly told. I like open doors where the whole truth comes in.
I also like bear hugs, because they transmit sincerity. A hug consoles tears, sustains sadness and comforts souls.
We do not know what the next second, even the next millisecond will bring.
I do not write this month’s edition of the magazine with nostalgia but with insight. The year has just barely started and already many tragedies have hap- pened around the world. This makes me re think everything. Japan in its life of calmness and discipline was shaken by the biggest earthquake of the last 140 years, followed by a tsunami and aggra- vated by the radioactive contamination. I wonder how many parents died not being able to tell their child how much they loved them. How many children are now orphaned by losing parents and parent’s heartbroken losing chil- dren. How many friends died without forgiveness.
It was just the end of another day making plans for tomorrow and this is the way we live our days living with the thoughts of tomorrow and putting things off.
So I ask myself till how long will we have tomorrow?
It’s time to forgive now, it’s time to ask for forgiveness now, its also time to say how much we love now.
I do not want to wait for tomorrow, tomorrow has to become now.I don’t want to wait for a tragedy for me to realize what I have to do.
Be quick with what you have to do now. Do it today and don’t wait till tomorrow!

Ilike the world at peace... unfortunately at times it comes from war. Sometimes, we need to stand against the world to achieve our goals. The saying “the end does not always justify the means” does not always apply. Egypt is one example. People who are honest, hardworking and tired of being exploited are now rising up against a 30 year dictatorship. Absolute power is dangerous. I think that this applies with everything. From the social- ist to the capitalist world; hence there are laws against monopoly. That kind of power shatters the soul of man. It cor- rupts your power of discression between right and wrong. What impressed me the most with the recent history of the Egyp- tian dictator, was the attitude of the U.S. government to sit on the fence. A govern- ment that makes war in the name of peace. A government that invades, slaughters and holds on behalf of freedom, but then was silent when it most needed to be heard. The old story that it’s good for you, but it’s not good for me is often times the same in our lives. We remain silent in the face of injustice for somehow we feel it does not concern or affect us. When you see people oppressed, suffering and left to die; stand up and raise your voice to say enough is enough. We must realize that there is a limit to everything. Thus mar- tyrs are born
.... Ordinary people, disgusted with the situation that they are in, say ENOUGH ... Even if it costs them their lives. When we fight for something we believe in its worth more then we could ever imagine. It’s the fuel that moves us, the energy that ignites us and that gives us courage to move on. Our strength and our ability to face obstacles is so much stronger than we think. Our insistence on the truth is what protects us with real armor ... From there, we become unattainable and invincible ... even though our bodies perish, our con- viction survives ... The perseverance of Egypt’s will serve as an example for all oppressed people across this vast world. The victory of the war against ourselves, against our fears and limitations is over. When we believe in our dreams, we are truly invincible ...

The Holidays have passed, but the struggle continues. We look forward to a few more months and then we will be celebrating the arrival of another new year once again. Did we make promises...promises that we never kept. And so passes time ... every month from beginning to end... It’s always good to look ahead but focus on the way you choose to walk there. As important as it is to look forward, it is also important to look back, to remember the promises we made, the things we promised and the mistakes we made along the way. When we look back, we should see if we are continuing on the same path that we wanted to follow in the beginning ... This is the path of our dreams, our promises and our oaths ...we need to follow it ... keep on that path.
I have managed to keep myself on this chosen path. Of course there were storms along the way both predictable and unpre- dictable but nothing steered me away off that path. Sometimes, perhaps I slowed the rhythm of my footsteps, but to stop?
NEVER!
Today with pride, I come to you, my friends, who supported and continue to support me on this journey to say that one more victory is on its way. Milton Today TV is a reality. After a year of testing, struggling and very hard word ... We managed to get there.
MILTON TODAY TV is finally here...ready to launch. We have started installing our televisions which within a short period of time will be located through the town.
Milton can now enter a new era of informa- tion with local sports, news, events, politics, live daily shows and more ... all this informa- tion will come through Milton Today TV. When I say our, I mean it. This local TV is a gift I give to all Miltonians. A community- oriented Television Station made for our community by our community.
We are in the age of information. This month, Miltonians will be able to watch our programming on TV and the community will share in Milton’s joys, sorrows, hopes and stories through our shows and coverage. We will be able to monitor the life of this wonderful town looking closely at our growth, our politics and our community news which will inform you and show you the people, places and things that make this town so great. With transmission in HD, we have arrived with cutting edge technology and a profes- sionally trained dedicated team to bring you only the best. From now on we can all wear the one jersey, the jersey of pride in being a Miltonian. And I want to finish my editorial today with a saying...

A New Year.... A new stage....a new battle ahead Not a battle against each other, but against the person inside of us... A struggle to overcome...a fight where our opponent is in fact the voice inside of us..... Overcoming is the greatest of all battles...a personal battle...to recognize our mistakes and improve our successes... A battle where there are no losers, only winners. Are the resolutions the beginning of a step...a new target to be reached. New Year Resolutions are the beginning of a first step on a new path to be explored...a new personal goal to be reached...the end of a past cycle... The fight, in fact should remain the same, even if the strategy has changed...another year passes, steps made are steps taken. It’s now a new year, with a new path to be explored....What we lack in our courage we know in our soul...but we must hold on to our personal goals and our dreams...I wish all our friends and customers, from the bottom of my heart...Intelligence to find this new personal goal ...Perseverance to keep on track ...Courage to attain it and love and enjoy it.

It's time for reconciliation, forgiveness, solidarity ... It's time to look back and balance between right and wrong ... It's time to celebrate brotherhood ...
What I don’t understand is why we have to wait a whole year to think about, The time to love is now ... not tomorrow, not the end of the year ...
During this year, many who have stood in the way we love ... And we are a little more alone ... And each year, a new journey begins ...
Many and many are going to join ... Our journey continues ... In the end, amid tears and smiles,
between failures and losses, struggles tween lost and battles, we are left strengthened by what we did ... But what determines our great victory, is... Keeping track of the good things that we leave in our path,the confidence that is gained, and the fact that we are nothing without the other ... We must at this moment of introspection, thank God for the friends we made, the things we have achieved, for another year of life, I especially thank God for having given me the opportunity to be with all of you, For giving me the opportunity to know you better, For giving me the opportunity to be a little Miltonian ... A LITTLE MORE, A LITTLE BETTER, A LITTLE SOMETHING SPECIAL

Considered a true peoples gym, Fitness Etc is a privately owned facility that has grass roots beginnings. Ben and Kristian, the owners of Fitness Etc, started out like most other teenagers that have developed and interest and love in fitness. Kristian received one of those home bench systems for his 13th birthday and Ben being a big athlete in high school, really wanted to get stronger and faster so he started going to the school gym. From those early beginnings, they fell in love with the whole healthy lifestyle and never looked back. Their dream to one day open up their own club began brewing and finally in 2010 they found the opportunity they had been waiting for. Their dream was to create a place that really offered the best of all worlds, a place that had everything a big box club does, but at the same time, a close knit, personal, and friendly atmo- sphere that your local mom and pop gym did. On one hand you have a 27,000 sq. ft. facility with 20 foot ceilings, brand new and top of the line Magnum equipment, full aerobics schedule, women's only section, day care, juice bar, supplements shop, spin studio, trx studio, kids and adult dance classes, change rooms with lockers and steam room, plasma televisions with FM transmission, and too many other little subtleties to list, that easily put this gym head to head with any competitor. On the other hand and that which really separates Fitness Etc, putting it heads above the competition, is the atmosphere. Fitness Etc has the friendliest staff, most motivating atmosphere, an impeccably clean facility, owners that are regularly present and make themselves available daily, and a genuine and honest attitude that really goes a long way. Just walk in and take a tour with Tyler (the sales rep) or even one of the owners (Ben or Kristian) and you will see and feel the difference for yourself. People are joining at an ever growing pace and there's a reason why. The place is always clean. The equip-
ment is brand new, extensive, and unlike anything the competition has to offer.
When a piece of equipment does break, the owners themselves are
there and get right on having it fixed or replaced. When you are coming in for a tour or a trial or thinking about signing up, no one is pressuring you, that is just not
how good business is done.
The front desk staff actually knows your name. There is just a positive vibe throughout, from start to finish, and it’s becoming viral, more and more people are hearing about it, experiencing it for themselves, and letting their friends know. So now you're starting to believe that this just might be the best club in Milton, but you knew there had to be a down side, if the gym really is Milton's newest and best little spot but it keeps growing and growing in popularity as it has been, it's

surely going to overflow with members and you will be lucky if there isn't a five minute wait for the treadmill or any other machine, right? Wrong! Ben and Kristian have agreed to cap the amount of members that they will allow to join the facility to ensure that this never happens. So in a sense, with the rapid pace at which Milton is growing, the spots are limited. Also, the gym itself, with the way the equipment is setup, allows for further equipment additions on today's current inventory. So there you have it, a club, an atmosphere, a lifestyle. Drop in and take a look for yourself!

Once upon a time....There was a young girl who started her career as a Paramedic in Oakville. She was one of the original female Paramedics in the Province of Ontario at the time. In fact she was
the only full time female paramedic in Milton when she came here 12 years ago. I guess you could say this girl had a pioneer spirit. Fast forward to today...this girl has grown to become one of Milton’s most successful business women.... her name is Barb King.
While she was working as a paramedic she fell in love and later married her husband of more than 25 years Jim King. Together they are a great team with big hearts . Working together as paramedics they joked about whoever retired first, was to be the first to start up a Real Estate business. Barb was certain since Jim was older that he would be the first, however as it turned out Barb was the first to retire from EMS.
Barb knew she had to keep the dream alive and in 2004 studied and successfully obtained her Real Estate license. In record time Barb was winning awards in the industry that would set records in Real Estate. She earned the 100% Club in her first year, won the Platinum award in year two and
the Hall of Fame award in year three, which means she earned over one million dollars!
Having built their own home Barb and Jim know the ins and outs of a real estate property. Additionally they owned investment properties and to round out the skill sets Barb graduated from an interior design course at Sheridan College. There is more than meets the eye when it comes to the Real Estate business such as Referrals, Buying & Selling, Staging, Renting and Investing.
Barb is often asked, how does one go from EMS to Real Estate, what’s the connection?. Dealing with people for 21 years as a first responder to the scenes of accidents Barb explains that “you are dealing with people on all emotional levels which can be challeng- ing and very difficult at times”. She finds that when people are buying or selling their homes, it is one of the most difficult decisions they make. “I have seen many become emotional during the processes of buying and selling, so at the end of the day it really is all relative when working with people”.
After 42 years and at the top of his field in EMS, Jim has recently retired and joined Barb in the business. He has written his first Real Estate exam and passed! Congratulations Jim!
What is the secret to their happiness and success? Jim and Barb both agreed, “Be true to yourself, live with honesty and integrity, have few regrets and live your life in the now and above all be grateful.
Barb and Jim extend their appreciation for the support they have received in Milton and look forward to continued service for years to come. Tonner Signs has been a part of Milton since 1977 when founder Barry Tonner first opened his doors and now
in 2010 we’re still here. My name is Cory Major the new owner of Tonner Signs. I started working for Barry in 2006 before that I worked at few different sign shops from Windsor to Mississauga, but Tonner Signs & Milton was where I was meant to be. Where Dreams Come True!!

In July The Dance Shoppe’s Competitive Dance Team travelled to Disney World in Orlando Florida to compete against some of the top studios from Canada and the United States at the Star Power National Dance Championships. The Dance Shoppe Dancers, as always, put their best foot forward and had great success!

Dancers aged 5-15yrs have been training at The Dance Shoppe for this event for many months. Dancers first had to qualify at the Regional event in Niagara Falls, NY in April. The Dance Shoppe is very proud of its youngest company, as they stole the judges’ hearts with their Acro-Jazz performance of “Ooh Eeh Ooh Ah Ah” and their Tap performance of “Codfish Ball”. These performances, along with all their other 72 competitive performances qualified to participate in the National Event.

Out of 1300 routines throughout the 5 day National competition, The Dance Shoppe won two spots to perform their Production routine “China” and a Jazz routine “Just Wanna” at the Battle of the Stars! This elite event was broadcast on-line to viewers around the world in countries such as Brazil, Moscow, South Africa and many others. Both routines placed 4^th overall in their respective age divisions. The Dance Shoppe once again did Milton proud!

Dancers were honored to have the opportunity to perform at the Swan and Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World and will forever cherish the memories made with their team mates and families. Disney, where dreams really do come true!

INFANTS, KIDS AND EXPECTING MOTHERS – THE ORAL-GENERAL HEALTH CONNECTION

Dear Milton Community,
We believe that prevention is the way to keep your dental, oral and general health at its best.

Expecting Mother’s

Expecting mothers endure a great deal of changes with their body and it is not any different with their dental and oral health.

A few facts of Oral Health and Pregnancy:
• Pregnant women have an increased risk of bleeding gums (gingivitis)
• Pregnant women that have Periodontal Disease are at higher risk for delivering a premature infant with low birth weight
• Pregnant women can transfer their diseased oral bacteria to the infant (ex. mother’s saliva) and is linked to early childhood cavities in those children
• Women trying to conceive should have an oral health screening to determine if they have any active dental disease (ex. Periodontal disease, cavities, tooth infection, abscess, etc)

Regular dental visits (during first and second trimester) are important for maintaining good oral hygiene during pregnancy.

Infants and Kids
Your child’s first visit is to create a dental home so that education and prevention can be used to help keep your child dental disease free.

Tips for Infant Oral health Care:
• First dental visit takes place once the first tooth shows or before their first birthday
• After breast or bottle feeding, you should wipe your child’s gums, tongue and teeth with a moist face towel
• Brush the tooth/teeth twice per day to develop good oral habits with your infant and toddler
• Allow your child to brush their teeth first and the parent to brush after them
• Start flossing when the tooth brush cannot clean in between the teeth
• Parents to monitor child’s teeth each month for brown spots or holes

Baby teeth are important for your child’s general health.
• Baby teeth maintain the space for the adult teeth to grow into which affects jaw and facial development.
• Early loss of baby teeth can alter the shape of the jaw and face
• Early loss of baby teeth can lead to future crowding of adult teeth
• Infections and cavities in baby teeth can cause loss of appetite, malnutrition, and damage to developing adult tooth underneath the bone

Children generally do not complain of pain, so it is important to create their dental home to prevent dental disease.

Master Concrete & Interlocking

was established in 1996. Master Concrete began operation with only three company trucks and three employees, commencing work in Oakville, Burlington and Mississauga. Master Concrete endured a successful year enhancing both residential and commercial properties. After many successful years the company expanded. Master Concrete purchased more vehicles and hired more employees to allocate multiple crews for designated task. This made it possible to start numerous jobs on any given day.
Master Concrete is owned and operated by Herculano Sarabando and his wife Lucia Sarabando. This coming July they will be celebrating 15 years of marriage. Herculano and Lucia have three wonderful children. Ashley their oldest daughter is thirteen, Sofia is 12 and the newest addition to the family their son Isaac, turning three in August. They reside in Milton, in the country on the outskirts of town on Bell School Line. This is where they operate their home based business. They moved from Oakville to Milton in 2005 after purchasing an 11 acre farm for the opportunity to operate their home based business. Moving to Milton really opened a window of opportunity to flourish within the community. They have watched the community grow and are proud to live and work in the Town of Milton.
Herculano has applied his 29 years of concrete experience to excel his company. His experience began in Portugal, working construction. In 1987 he moved from Portugal to Oakville with his parents and siblings. Upon arriving to this new country he obtained employment and continued working construction, gaining valuable knowledge in the concrete and asphalt occupations. Wanting to advance his career and income for his family he proudly opened his first company Master Concrete in 1996.
Using her experience as a Medical Secretary Lucia decided to support her husband and run the office when he opened the company in 1996. As the company flourished Lucia required office assistance and hired Jennifer Dean in 2003. The two worked side by side to advance Master Concrete, while also embarking on a new friendship. In the fall of 2009 Samantha Smith was hired to relive Jennifer while on maternity leave.
Master Concrete is the company it is today due to its valuable hard working employees. Everyone works together as a team and they treat each other like family. When the working environment is positive and employees are given incentives, projects are successfully completed with honorable satisfaction. Master Concrete takes great pride in their work and aims to please every client.
Master Concrete believes in giving back to the community. They have been annual supporters of The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation, The Drugs and Addiction Magazine, Drug Facts for Young People Magazine and The Oakville Hospital. On November 4th 2002 Pasqualino Café & Bistro opened their doors after extensive renovations. owners Domenic and Maria Pasqualino were excited to open their little restaurant after years of planning & looking for a suitable location in Milton their new home. They remembered how very well recieved they were from local merchants and the people of Milton, and Domenic and Maria are profoundly grateful. Pasqualino Cafe & Bistro was an instant success, the concept was new to Milton and the food was totaly fresh and different.
Chef Domenic Pasqualino continually strives to keep his quality standards high with his homemade pasta, splendid soups, fresh fish, game, veal, and beef dishes. "it's a pleasure to see patrons friends regularly coming back to eat at our restaurant" comments Domenic. "it is extremely rewarding and it makes the all the hard work in running the restaurant
worthwhile.

Domenic and Maria believe in giving back to the community. They generously support charitable causes through donations, gift

certificates & through cooking classes which have raised money for the Red -Cross and the Milton District Hospital foundation.

Domenic is currently producing a DVD with his favourite recipes, cooking tips, and demonstrations. the proceeds of the sales of the DVDs will go to various charities including Milton District Hospital Foundation. The Pasqualinos are hoping to have the DVD ready for sale for mid April.
Pasqualino Cafe & bistro was recently voted through the Canadian Champion Milton Choice Awards as Milton's favourite fine dining, Italian Restaurant, European dining, & Domenic was voted as Milton's favourite local chef. Pasqualino Café & Bistro is also currently nominated by the Milton Chamber of Commerce as business of the year.

Once upon a time…

….There was a young girl who started her career as a Paramedic in Oakville. She was one of the original female Paramedics in the Province of Ontario at the time. In fact she was the only full time female paramedic in Milton when she came here 12 years ago. I guess you could say this girl had a pioneer spirit. Fast forward to today…this girl has grown to become one of Milton’s most successful business women…. her name is Barb King.

While she was working as a paramedic she fell in love and later married her husband of more than 25 years Jim King. Together they are a great team with big hearts (as their logo represents). Working together as paramedics they joked about whoever retired first, was to be the first to start up a Real Estate business. Barb was certain since Jim was older that he would be the first, however as it turned out Barb was the first to retire from EMS.

Barb knew she had to keep the dream alive and in 2004 studied and successfully obtained her Real Estate license. In record time Barb was winning awards in the industry that would set records in Real Estate. She earned the 100% Club in her first year, won the Platinum award in year two and the Hall of Fame award in year three, which means she earned over one million dollars!

Having built their own home Barb and Jim know the ins and outs of a real estate property. Additionally they owned investment properties and to round out the skill sets Barb graduated from an interior design course at Sheridan College. There is more than meets the eye when it comes to the Real Estate business such as Referrals, Buying & Selling, Staging, Renting and Investing.

Barb is often asked, how does one go from EMS to Real Estate, what’s the connection?. Dealing with people for 21 years as a first responder to the scenes of accidents Barb explains that “you are dealing with people on all emotional levels which can be challenging and very difficult at times”. She finds that when people are buying or selling their homes, it is one of the most difficult decisions they make. “I have seen many become emotional during the processes of buying and selling, so at the end of the day it really is all relative when working with people”.

After 42 years and at the top of his field in EMS, Jim has recently retired and joined Barb in the business. He has written his first Real Estate exam and passed! Congratulations Jim!

What is the secret to their happiness and success? Jim and Barb both agreed, “Be true to yourself, live with honesty and integrity, have few regrets and live your life in the now and above all be grateful.

Barb and Jim extend their appreciation for the support they have received in Milton and look forward to continued service for years to come.
